EMC Maintains the Lead in the Storage Market was created by R Al Bolouchi
IDC says EMC is number one by market share followed by Netapp and IBM. HP came as number 4.

Probably no surprises there. But for us as CIOs what is the point of those market share reports? I think 2 things:
Other people have made the effort to evaluate and selected those vendors, so it is a comfort factor
If a vendor has a market share lead, then they have a strong revenue stream with generally means they have money to spend on research and development

Yes they (EMC) will lead the storage field for a long time, even though many of us do not particularly like their aggressive sales approach .. the same story like Oracle.

They have the best products, they are always there, and when they find a deal they latch on to it till they close it using tactics that I may or may not like!

It is good to see a clear leader in the storage market with many excellent players (IBM, Dell, NetApp, Fujitsu etc..) playing catch up.

Actually I will be happier if there is no clear leader but rather 3 or 4 players competing for the leadership position. Nt just in market share but also in terms of product leadership and service excellence.
