Hi, I filled the forms all the way to the end a few days ago, it told me I will be emailed the results.

Got nothing so far, did anyone else have the same experience?

I did not particularly think that this was a great way to determine how does my organization measure up.

But hey, look at this approach on the Gartner blog:
blogs.gartner.com/mark_mcdonald/2010/06/...usiness-value-of-it/

It essentially says here is the equation:
Business Value of IT = EBITDA / IT Headcount
Why because increase in productivity is associated with IT .. reasonable idea but I have a few issues with that:
- EBITDA increase may come from other sources than IT, a new faster manufacturing line maybe?
- IT headcount is not really that meaningful, I may outsource 50% of my IT work and get a great result using this equation even though that takes place at a higher cost to the company

I don't know if there will ever be a good measure!

I don't see how a formula can measure how good an IT department is. I believe there is a number of factors that one should look at, some of them are objectives the rest are somewhat subjective.

Some of the things one should look at are:

How well you are managing your projects, all the way from project prioritization and technology selection to on time, on budget completion

How well you are managing your technology and architecture, do you have a cohesive technology infrastructure and integrated business processes or just islands of information driven by isolated requirements

Your team, their level of excitement, commitment and the degree to which innovation is part of their day to day activity

Do you have working vendor relationships, win win relationships, will your suppliers go out of their way to help when you are in trouble do you share your strategy and future plans with them?

What is the business perception of IT, slow and expensive? Cooperative and aligned? How well do you set the expectations of the business and how involved are they in business driven IT projects?

Just some thoughts ..
