Why isn't there more women in IT?

I wonder why ..
When get a chance to speak to IT students I always make it a point to try to figure out the percentage of women in the audience .. and it is not a small percentage.

When I look at IT departments, vendors, or distributors I notice a very low percentage of women.

So the question is where do they go? Do they all become stay at home mothers? Surely not .. I really don't know the answer.

But I really think that both vendors and It departments alike need to take a look at their hiring processes and make sure they are not missing out on skilled female IT graduates.

I know you won't regret it.

It is true the ratio between males and females in IT departments is unfair or does not reflect the ratio of students in IT schools.

On the other hand when we advertise or post jobs we get an exceptionally low ratio of female applicants .. the pool to select from is too small.

Maybe women who are in leadership positions in IT should take it upon themselves to do something to encourage other women to become more aggressive in looking for jobs and in progressing their careers.

I would say there is a reasonable number of women in IT in Egypt, admittedly not in very senior positions but they are making their way.

It is a shame really that there is very few women in IT, but I am seeing more and more young women joining IT departments in the Gulf, just hope they stay the course and move to leadership roles.

There is no reason why women should not represent 50% of any IT department.

IT should be one of the easier fields for women to work in, and I am seeing more and more women studying IT.

This has always puzzled me, not sure why few women make it in IT, is it uninteresting for them? Are they not being given a chance?
