Driving Growth with Cloud-Based Shared Services was created by Leila Mostafa
I am posting this at the risk of appearing to promote a particular vendor.

This is a webcase by Oracle's CIO where he talks about how Oracle managed to standardize, virtualize and cloud enable its infrastructure as well as its globally deployed enterprise applications .. and how that is supporting Oracle's acquisition strategy by saving cost.

He also talks about the cost of IT as a percentage of revenue and how that has gone down while improving internal IT services.

I think he makes some very good points that many of us can learn from.

Here is the web cast:

Let me know what you think.

What Oracle has done with its internal IT is impressive and that goes back several years. They run a single clean instance of ERP across the world than encompasses all their business applications.
This should surely provide great consolidation and reporting.

Actually, I like the way Oracle is managing its own IT, they seem to have standardized and globalized everything in such a way that it is costing them much less than other similarly sized companies.

I am not sure however if thay are catering for the local needs of each and every geography.

Actually there has been very little written about shared services, it looks like each company comes up with its own strategy but where can I find some best practices?

I see this as absolutly the way to go for medium and large organizations in the Gulf, especially for conglomerates and family businesses. One great exampole is of course Dubai government which is running a single instance of Oracle ERP on the government's private cloud ..
