I guess unless you are managing IT for a company that operates in a single industry (retail, construction etc.) and all your transnational systems are made of a single instance of ERP from let us say SAP or Oracle, you cannot say you have a simple IT.
But in this part of the world most companies operate in several domains especially conglomerates, what that means is no matter how hard you try you will end up with several specialized systems somehow glued together.
And we have not yet said anything about your website, your collaboration environment, security, networking, BYOD etc.
So it is fair to say that we all run fairly complex IT environments .. here is a tool that helps you measure your degree of IT complexity from Oracle, I had a quick look and found its approach to be interesting and hence I am sharing it.
